Blue Ridge Health is currently seeking a Behavioral Health RN Case Manager to be part of our Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) in Waynesville, NC.
As a member of the ACT team, the nurse is responsible for conducting psychiatric assessments; assessing physical needs; making appropriate referrals to community physicians; providing management and administration of medication in conjunction with the psychiatrist; providing a range of treatment, rehabilitation and support services; and sharing shift-management responsibility with the ACTT coordinator. This includes taking the lead role or participate in providing medication administration and medical services. Under the direction of the team psychiatrist, develop, revise, maintain, and supervise team psychopharmologic and medical treatment and medication policies and procedures including transcribing, administering, evaluating and recording psychotropic medications prescribed by the team psychiatrist, evaluate and chart psychotropic medication effectiveness, complications and side effects; and arrange for lab work according to protocol. Under the direction of the team psychiatrist, manage the system of getting medication to clients and integrating medication administration tightly into clients’ PCP. Under the direction of the team psychiatrist, manage pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
Graduation from a State accredited school of nursing and one year of experience psychiatric nursing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Considerable knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, techniques, and practices employed in the field of mental health, considerable knowledge of medications used in the area of work, their proper dosage, and effects and contraindications, and working knowledge of available resources and organizations.
Must have a strong commitment to the right and ability of each person with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in a normal community residence; work in market jobs; and have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports and services. Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illness and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment as well as a strong recovery orientation are essential.
